It's not the same as the general home inspection done during a real estate transaction (which is a visual overview, not a detailed electrical assessment).

A thorough electrical inspection covers:
- Panel condition, brand, capacity, and breaker function
- Service entrance and grounding system
- Wiring type and condition throughout accessible areas
- Outlet and switch condition, grounding, and GFCI/AFCI coverage
- Smoke and CO detector placement and function
- Attic and basement wiring visible from accessible areas
- Junction boxes — whether they're covered and properly filled
- Any visible signs of amateur or unpermitted work

After the inspection, we give you a written report that identifies what we found, categorizes items by priority (safety hazard vs. code deficiency vs. recommended upgrade), and gives you a clear picture of what the work would involve. There's no pressure to book follow-up work — the report is yours to use however makes sense.
How Long It Takes
For a typical single-family home, a thorough electrical inspection takes 1.5–3 hours depending on size, accessibility, and the complexity of what's there. Larger homes, homes with multiple panels, or homes with extensive knob and tube wiring take longer.
